Any Geeks Out There???

Marc and I are having a strange problem with out computer. Usually, when we want to get to a website we either type website.com or www.website.com and poof... we are there. Now, all of a sudden, you have to add in the "http://" before the website otherwise it will just sit there. Any idea of why this is happening and how to fix it?

My parents had that problem with their computer and when I went to look at it, the first thing I did was an AdAware search and it found all kinds of adware. There were a couple of viruses as well.

The minute I removed that stuff, it went back to normal. I don't know exactly which adware or virus was causing the problem, or maybe it was unrelated, but that's my only suggestion.

  4. I am having the same exact problem and it just started on Friday. We have Comcast and I called them and they said that it had something to do with my antivirus but they couldn't help me. Argh!

I had the same thought as Jane. Ad-Aware is a free download and a life-saver.

  8. You may want to consider getting a firewall program you can get Zone Alarm for free. I've used that and now I'm using Norton Systemworks and Firewall. In 10+ years on the internet, I've only gotten one really nasty virus. Another thing, switch to Firefox it's safer to use than internet explorer.
