Update Time!

We have DNA and it's a 99.99% match :) Along with the DNA test, we also received a photograph of Dylan's birthmother holding him. She is beautiful. Stunning actually. She was smiling sweetly in the photograph. I wondered if it was because she was told to smile. I hope it was because she was at peace with her decision and because she knew that some day Dylan would be looking at this photograph and wanted him to see her that way. I hope it's the later. Looks like the second vote on The Ortega Law takes place today. This law definitely has it's benefits and I can see how it, ultimately, would streamline the process. However, there is nothing in this law that provides for the children while the law is being implemented which means that hundreds of children could be stranded while it's implemented. I also worry (selfishly) about how this law can effect our adoption as well. If the stories I have heard from the Hague disaster are any indication, this process could take a lot longer than we expected. I hope and pray that it doesn't happen until they can put a plan into place to take care of the children in the interim and not effect the currently adoptions taking place.

  7. Hooray for the DNA!!! That's great news. I'm so glad the bm is smiling in the picture. Our bm looks angry and very uncomfortable and Gabe is screaming in the picture. Its not a very nice picture of either of them.

I've got my fingers crossed on the law.

  8. I hope this new law does absolutely nothing to effect your adoption (except for speeding it up of course).

Congrats on the DNA being done. Just one more check box that has been checked. I hope there are only a couple more to be checked until you have your Dylan.

  9. So I just read that the second reading did not go through or at least it was postponed. But the ADA is doing very great work to educate the congress as to what would happen to the children of Guatemala if they could not be adopted. I think the congress is listening. Susana is doing such wonderful work down there!
Also - congrats on the DNA results. You are getting closer everyday to bringing Dylan home!

Congrats on the "match". Cherish that photo. I'll pray you get more. We got a small passport like photo of Riley's b-mom ("O") from our attorney when we were in Guat bringing Ry home. It's in a small frame, in her bedroom now, on a shelf. After we pray each night Ry will kiss the picture of "O" before bed. And we like to tell Riley what a very special woman "O" is and how much our family loves her.

I know everyone's "openess" differs and their feelings about a relationship with the b-mom, but we'd like to find "O" someday. Let her know she made a good decision, tell her how much Ry is loved, and most of all just hug her and thank her for the most precious gift anyone has ever given us. Without her, we wouldn't have our daughter. And we just can't imagine life without Riley.

Another reason for our openess is that Ry has birth siblings. And we'd like to find them so we can financially help them out a bit if needed. Or like just send clothes or school supplies. Stuff like that. I think someday that could mean the world to Riley.

Sorry for the rambling - your post just got me on a roll. :-)
